Active & Healthy encourages residents to regularly take part in physical activity and wellness programs.
We promote awareness of entry level, low and medium intensity activities that are suitable for people just starting or getting back into regular activity.
We are always looking for experienced and community-minded fitness and wellness professionals to deliver Active & Healthy activities as part of the program.

Active & Healthy Program
The Active & Healthy Program offers affordable and accessible weekly activities across the Gold Coast, encouraging residents to participate in regular physical activity.
The program runs weekly from July to June every year during school terms (40 weeks).
How to get involved
Eligibility criteria
- Public liability insurance – $20 million minimum
- Relevant professional qualifications and experience
- Blue card (if an activity involves children under 18 years of age)
- Senior First Aid – HLTAID0011 and CPR – HLTAID009 (for activities that involve physical activity)
- Risk Management Plan
Activity criteria
Activities offered must be:
- of low to medium intensity and cater for beginners
- delivered in a professional and safe manner
- community oriented
- affordable
- of benefit to local residents and the area in which the activity is held.

Supplier
To become an supplier and be paid to deliver free or low cost activities as part of the annual Active & Healthy Program, you must apply via a tender process.
The procurement process for the next 5 years for the delivery of services for Active & Healthy Program, is now closed. Opportunities do exist outside this process for specialised activities that cater to a specific population or need.

Champion
Our champions are qualified and experienced local health and fitness professionals who give back to the community by providing a free or low-cost community-based fitness or wellbeing class in Gold Coast parks or community facilities.
Classes must not exceed $8 per person. Rate of charge will depend upon community centre costs, capacity of rooms and whether the activity is outdoors. Each session must accommodate at least 20 participants, except for inclusive activities where exceptions may apply. Please note that as a champion you will not be paid a fee by us to run the activity. We will only approve applications if there is a demonstrated need for the proposed class in the suggested area.
We are actively seeking instructors to run:
- weekly senior dance
- weekly senior strength training
- weekly inclusive programs (all abilities)
- weekly toddler and children’s active classes
- Pilates and yoga in north of the city.
Our expectations of you:
- meet the eligibility criteria as highlighted above
- offer a professional and accessible community based activity
- not charge participants more than $8 per hour for the activity
- commit to the program’s 12-month timeframe (July 2025 to June 2026)
- submit weekly participation data
- stay in regular contact with the A&H team to address any concerns, cancellations, or updates.
- assist with the marketing and promotion of the class in conjunction with us.
In return for your community service, our team will:
- help with access to a park or open space to conduct the activity in
- support the hall hire to one of our community facilities. This is dependent on the activity proposed, community need and the capacity of the community centre
- promote activities through the Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and our website
- provide you with an Active & Healthy uniform and A-frame signage
- provide opportunities to network with the local fitness, recreation and wellness industry.
Champion application have closed for the 2025–2026 program.
School Holiday Program
The Active & Healthy School Holiday Program helps activate the City’s parks and community facilities. It includes a large variety of activities during the school holidays for kids aged 4 to 17 years. There are 4 holiday programs:
- Summer: December and January (4 weeks)
- Autumn: April (2 weeks)
- Winter: June and July (2 weeks)
- Spring: September and October (2 weeks)
We are looking for providers who can offer exciting and value for money sport, recreation, fitness and nature based activities that cater for children (4 to 17 years) and families in the school holidays.
This offer is for:
- sport/recreation clubs and community organisations
- fitness professionals / allied health professionals
- local businesses and organisations running affordable kids and family activities and workshops in the holidays.
As part of the Active & Healthy School Holiday Program, suitable activities are able to receive funding to cover the cost of your activity so that it can be offered for free or at a low cost to community members. Consideration is given to value for money, number of participants, need and benefit to the community.
