The Gold Coast's beautiful natural environment allows us to enjoy a lifestyle like no other city. You can play an active part in keeping it this way by joining Austinville Landcare Group.

Austinville Valley is located between Mudgeeraba and Springbrook. It was previously known for banana farming but is now known for its beautiful rainforests and stunning creeks.

About Austinville Landcare Group

The Landcare group was established in November 2005 and partners with our Natural Areas Management Unit's NaturallyGC Volunteer Landcare Program. The group helps with the restoration of Council-managed conservation areas though the planting of native trees and follow up weed control.

The group are currently focusing on restoring a section of Austinville Conservation Area along the upper reaches of Mudgeeraba Creek. Works undertaken by the group are enhanced by professional bush regenerators who help with preparation for planting and follow up maintenance including the control of environment weeds. The group also work with other agencies on private property and within areas of national park.

Aim

• Encourage active community involvement and ownership
• Control environmental weeds impacting the site and promote the expansion of native canopy cover
• Provide learning opportunities for local landholders in ecological restoration
• Expand the width of riparian vegetation and protect creek bank from erosion through revegetation and assisted regeneration techniques
• Improve and increase habitat opportunities for native wildlife
• Restore and improve the structure of the existing native vegetation within the park using revegetation and assisted regeneration techniques
• Strengthen relationships in the community

Group achievements

• Completed Austinville Community Park project in 2013 through environmental weed management and planting 6000 trees.
• The group have also been very successful in applying for and receiving government grants to restore other parts of Austinville Valley.
• Successful in obtaining a grant that allowed them to aerial map areas of weed infestation in the Austinville Valley.
