About Elanora Bushcare Group

The Elanora Bushcare Group was formed in February 2000 and is partnered with our Natural Areas Management Unit's NaturallyGC Volunteer Landcare program. The group assists with the restoration of the Elanora Wetlands Reserve and Schuster Park located at the end of Tallebudgera Drive, Elanora.

The group's activities include weed control and revegetation and, since starting the group, has planted over 10,000 plants that have provided habitat opportunities for local wildlife. Works undertaken by the group are enhanced by professional bush regenerators who help with preparation for planting and follow up maintenance including the control of environmental weeds.

The area is home to over 60 different species of birds and other native animals such as sugar gliders, possums and frogs. A butterfly-friendly garden has been established within the wetlands area and can be seen by walking along the trail, with some interpretive signage along the way.

Aims

• Restore and expand remaining native vegetation by controlling weeds
• Repair riparian vegetation including its structure, integrity and diversity
• Improve habitat opportunities for local landholders in 'bush restoration'
• Improve the amenity of the park as a focal point in the community
• Strengthen relationships in the community
