Designed by First Nations artist Lisa Sorbie Martin, the parks artwork titled ‘Breathing Place’ was inspired by the native Water Snowflake.
The creation of these tall, mesmerising abstract water lilies, floating gracefully upon the imaginary waterline, gives the viewer a sense of being under the water. Gazing upwards you will see the large lily top with hand drawn markings representing the Water Snowflake Lily flourishing in the wet season, and also dashed lines depicting the movement of water currents in creeks, canals, lakes and river waterways including the ocean.
Lisa took inspiration from our local Yugambeh language word, Bui (pronounced boo-we) meaning 'breath'. In Lisa’s words, “Bui the essence of life. Take a deep breath - take a moment to reflect on the miracle that sustains life...it is ‘breath’. This is a place for relaxation, fun, enjoyment, play, rest, reflection, inspiration and replenishment.”
