Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction

Background

Our vision is to create a special place for people of different abilities and multiple generations to play, interact and socialise. The Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction will be a ‘must do’ destination for local residents and visitors wanting to experience a unique, engaging and exciting play space. It will provide a variety of physically challenging and imaginary play experiences whilst also providing informal gathering spaces for all visitors to enjoy the Broadwater.

Project information

The Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction has been designed to provide a variety of physically challenging and imaginary play experiences whilst also providing informal gathering spaces for all visitors to enjoy the Broadwater.

Visitors will also learn about the Broadwater’s fascinating bird and sea life as they interact with features and embellishments such as oversized mud crabs, sculptural birds, murals and discovery trails.

The key features of the project are:

  • a tall spiral play tower with four different levels and a variety of interactive play equipment within the tower including a glockenspiel, binoculars and telescopes, suspended nets and rope tunnels and an enclosed spiral slide
  • a water and sand play area including carved sandstone blocks, bronze sea animals, water pumps and mini weirs and water gates
  • an elevated sand table designed as a ‘fish and chip shop’ that can accommodate wheelchair users
  • other types of play equipment including play panels, swings and slides, trampolines, diggers, stepping stones, balance beams, carousel, climbing walls and climbing nets
  • shade sails over the play equipment
  • a large shelter with seating and barbecue facilities and a kitchenette for children’s birthday parties and social gatherings
  • lush subtropical landscape and extensive lawn areas for social gatherings and picnics.

The Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction will address the lack of play spaces in the northern precinct and also extend the parkland’s capacity as one of the city’s most popular parks.
