Get involved in the Active & Healthy program

Join the movement to help shape the Gold Coast as Australia’s most active and healthy city.

We're currently developing the next Active & Healthy program and interested in working with individuals and organisations in the following fields:

  • fitness
  • health
  • sport
  • recreation
  • wellness.

The next Active & Healthy program will run from 13 July 2020 to 27 June 2021.

To be involved you must have the following:

  • sufficient qualifications in your professional field and experience delivering group-based programs/activities
  • $10 million public liability insurance (individuals or businesses)
  • Senior First Aid – HLTAID003 and CPR – HLTAID001 (for activities that involve physical activity)
  • Commission for Children Blue Card (if working with children)
  • risk management procedures in place.

Activity criteria

One of Active & Healthy's objectives is to encourage inactive residents to engage and regularly participate in physical activity and wellness programs. We focus on increasing the awareness of entry level, low to medium intensity activities that are suitable for people just starting or getting back into regular activity.

Activities must be:

  • of low to medium intensity and cater for beginners
  • delivered in a professional and safe manner
  • community oriented
  • affordable
  • of benefit to local residents and the area in which the activity is held.

Levels of involvement

Active & Healthy supplier

We're seeking to align with a range of qualified and experienced fitness, sport and recreation professionals who are community minded and keen to work with us to improve the physical activity levels and wellbeing of our community. The new supplier process will be open mid-February 2020 with a new three year procurement process in place for July 2020 to June 2023.

Active & Healthy champion

Are you passionate about helping our community become healthier and happier? Then we want you!

We are looking for qualified and experienced local health and fitness professionals who would like to give back to the community through the provision of a free or low cost community based fitness or wellbeing class in the City’s parks or community facilities. Classes offered must not cost more than $5 per person.

In return for your community service, our Active & Healthy team will:

  • assist with access to a park or open space to conduct the activity in
  • assist with the access to a City community facility. We will consider providing assistance with hall hire if the activity and location meets a specific community need. Please highlight this in your application
  • promote the class to the local community through the Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and our website
  • provide you with an Active & Healthy uniform and A-frame signage
  • provide opportunities to network with the local fitness, recreation and wellness industry.

Requirements

  • qualifications, insurance and certifications listed above
  • provision of at least one affordable (up to $5 per hour) or free community fitness/recreation/sport activity per week
  • activities must occur within the program's timeframe.

Please note that as a champion you will not be paid a fee by the City to run the activity.

Active and Healthy promotion of third party

If you are running affordable fitness, recreation, sport and wellness activities and programs on the Gold Coast, then we would love to help promote these as listings in the City’s Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide 2019-20 and on our Active & Healthy online calendar of events.

Who can apply?

  • sport/recreation clubs and community organisations
  • fitness professionals/allied health professionals.

Types of activities

  • group fitness/recreation classes in a community facility or private studio/gym (e.g. yoga, tai chi, fitness, HIIT)
  • sports come and try days and training sessions.

In return for your community service, our Active & Healthy team will:

  • list approved activities in the 2020-21 Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and on the website
  • provide opportunities to network with the local fitness, recreation and wellness industry.

Requirements

  • current qualifications
  • first aid and CPR certificates are desirable (if providing a physical activity service)
  • Commission for Children Blue Card (if working with children).

Applications to get involved in our next Active & Healthy program, running from 13 July 2020 to 27 June 2021, are now open.

To be included in the 2020-21 Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and on our Active & Healthy online calendar of events:

  • complete either the Active & Healthy Champion or Promotion of Third Party application form
  • email the completed application form plus required documents (qualifications, insurance, certificates) to activehealthygc@goldcoast.qld.gov.au by 22 March 2020.

We will assess your application and confirm by email within three weeks of submission if your activities meet the criteria and are suitable for inclusion. Submission of an application does not automatically mean approval.
