Paul commenced his career in Melbourne with Pye Pty Ltd in their supply department. While there, he undertook a three year management course which covered external and internal management training and spent time in each of their interstate offices. When Philips Industries acquired Pye Pty Ltd, he was promoted to Supply Manager in the Communications Division. He was also appointed to investigate and report on all management positions relating to the interstate offices.

After several years with this company, he was approached to join ACI Electronics, a division of ACI Ltd. This company manufactured telecommunication and telemetry equipment for government and commercial enterprise. After 24 months and the completion of government contracts, ACI decided to dispose of the division. Ten of the employees including Paul offered to purchase the division, which was accepted. The company was renamed PCM Electronics and concentrated on the manufacturing and supply of communication equipment for the commercial market. PCM Electronics went on to win an Australian design award.

In 1977, Paul moved to Queensland with his wife and three children and managed an apartment complex for two years before establishing a fire protection company in 1980. This company is now one of the largest private fire protection companies in Queensland.

When Paul arrived on the Gold Coast, he joined Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club, obtaining his Bronze Medallion and enjoying the beach lifestyle. He was involved with organising the first Australian Surf Life Saving Titles conducted at Kurrawa Beach in 1984.

For the past 30 years, Paul has been a member of the Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club and in 2010 was made a Life Member. In September 2012, he resigned as President of the Kurrawa Supporters Club after serving 16 years in the role.

Paul was elected to Council in 2012. He is an active member of his community and has been a staunch promoter of his division since his election to the division.
