Peter Young was the Division 5 Councillor from 2000 until 2012. At that time Peter was heavily involved in key initiatives for the City including the Commonwealth Games bid, Chinese relations, Tourism, and Transport and Strategic Planning.

Peter was re-elected in March 2016. He is a member of the Transport and Infrastructure, Economy, Planning and Environment, and Water and Waste Committees.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Urban and Human Geography, Political Science, and Government and Public Administration from studies at the University of Sydney and Flinders University of South Australia.

Prior to his election in 2000, Peter was Director of his own consulting company providing award winning specialist advice and services in Geographic Information Systems to the Federal Government and Governments of Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. During the period 2012-16, Peter has focused on achieving complex export sales outcomes for Australian companies into China and South East Asia.

Peter is happily married to Karen and has been a resident of the Gold Coast since 1994.

His key goals are to deliver quality services and projects for the community he represents, and to pursue development of the city that is sustainable and consistent with the aspirations of the broad community.
