Waste and recycling centre changes in southern Gold Coast

Long term plan for waste

In 2013, the Council of the City of Gold Coast approved the Three Point Plan to optimise the City's network of waste management facilities. Changes will deliver:

  • reduced running costs to save ratepayers
  • a diverse range of recycling and reuse options
  • reduced volume of waste going in to landfill due to high recycling and resource recovery
  • improved environmental outcomes
  • more than 99 per cent of our residents continue to live within a 20-minute drive to a centre.

New site opened March 2014

Reedy Creek Waste and Recycling Centre opened to the public on Monday 24 March 2014.

This Waste and Recycling Centre is at the southern end of Hutchinson Street, Reedy Creek (also listed as Burleigh Heads), on the western side of Bermuda Street near Motorway exit 87. At the site entrance, turn right and follow the signs.

The centre is a drop-off facility for Gold Coast residents where they can dispose of and recycle household waste and green waste.

Key features of the centre include:

  • large recycling drop-off centre with 60 car spaces
  • modern facility using the best available design and technology
  • 6000-square-metre green organics recycling pad
  • 40 car spaces and multiple bin bays for general waste
  • Reedy Creek Recycle Market selling quality, reusable items at a bargain price. At the Recycle Market, you can donate reusable goods, as well as browse through the shop to find a bargain. The Recycle Market is operated by Endeavour Foundation.

As part of the plan, Tugun, Miami and Tallebudgera waste and recycling centres closed to the public on the 24 March 2014.

It is recommended that residents use the following alternative waste and recycling centres:

Merrimac Waste and Recycling Centre, Boowaggan Road, Merrimac (to the north). Reedy Creek Waste and Recycling Centre, Hutchinson Street, Reedy Creek (to the south).

Reedy Creek Waste and Recycling Centre, Hutchinson Street, Reedy Creek.

Reedy Creek Waste and Recycling Centre, Hutchinson Street, Reedy Creek.

Visit our interactive map to find a listing of all operational Waste and Recycling Centres on the Gold Coast.

Landfills and weighbridges are located at Stapylton (domestic and commercial) and Reedy Creek (commercial only).

Extension of kerbside services

In light of the closure of Tallebudgera, residences along a section of Tallebudgera Creek Road, up to and including number 929, received a new kerbside waste and recycling service.
