Kingsholme – Tillyroen Road and Upper Ormeau Road intersection upgrade

Commencing: March 2021
Completion: June 2021
Cost: $3.23 million

Project information

Due to a major increase in commuter and heavy vehicle traffic, the Tillyroen Road and Upper Ormeau Road intersection has been identified as a priority for upgrade. We are committed to manage congestion, improve safety and reduce the number of accidents at this busy intersection.

This project is jointly funded by City of Gold Coast and the Australian Government. We received $1.8 million from the Roads to Recovery Infrastructure Investment Program.

Construction details

  • Install traffic signals
  • Extend turning lanes on Tillyroen Road and Upper Ormeau Road
  • Services work (including relocating the drainage inlet pit on Upper Ormeau Road, adjusting water mains and Energex supply to existing street lighting)
  • Provide for future signalised pedestrian crossing on the Upper Ormeau section

During construction, please expect some travel time delays and low-level noise and dust. Most works will take place from Monday to Friday and construction times will be managed to minimise impact on this already busy intersection. We ask all road users to be patient and allow extra travel time.

Benefits to the community

  • Increased safety and improved access for all road users
  • Wider turning lanes for heavy vehicles
  • Off-road provisions for cyclists and pedestrians
