Conditions of Entry

Entry into any Gold Coast Library constitutes acceptance of the Conditions of Entry (Conditions).

Refusal to comply with these Conditions may result in immediate removal from the venue. These Conditions apply to all City of Gold Coast Library premises, including the building surrounds, and mobile library facilities.

Staff reserve the right to give direction or exclude any person from the premises where it is believed such direction is necessary for the care, consideration, safety or well-being of customers, staff or the facility.

The City is committed to providing a welcoming and safe environment for visitors and asks that customers follow standards of acceptable behaviour to ensure the security and safety of people and property is respected.

For the safety of all customers:

  • This is a non-smoking and non-vaping venue.
  • Disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour and language will not be tolerated.
  • Customers under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted entry into the venue.
  • Children 12 years and under must be closely supervised by an adult 18 years and over.
  • Camera surveillance operates in our facilities for the purpose of security and public safety. Footage may only be accessed by persons authorised to do so. All personal information is handled by the City in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
  • No animals are permitted, except for certified assistance animals.
  • Bicycles, shopping trolleys and scooters (other than mobility devices) are not permitted inside the facility.
  • Customers may take photographs of themselves and their own children within the facility but must not photograph staff or other customers unless prior permission has been granted.
  • Library staff may conduct a bag search at their discretion if required.
  • Additional conditions may apply during special events.

The following items are prohibited from being brought into the venue:

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Flags / banners
  • Amplification devices
  • Glass
  • Flares / fireworks
  • Laser pointers
  • Knives or other dangerous weapons
  • Bicycles, roller blades, skateboards or scooters
  • Shopping trolleys
  • Animals, with the exception of certified assistance animals
  • Recording devices
  • Other items that may cause injury or nuisance

To the extent permitted by law, you indemnify the City of Gold Coast from and against all actions, claims and demands of every kind which the City of Gold Coast or its officer(s), servants, agents and contractors shall or may be liable for in respect of or arising from any negligence, accident, loss, damage or injury to persons or property by reason of anything done or omitted to be done by yourself or third parties, who are not under the City’s direction or control.

These Conditions are also subject to Local Law No.4 (Libraries) 2008.
