How to join

Gold Coast Libraries membership gives you access to a world of content and experiences, both in our libraries and online. Visit, borrow, download, discover and enjoy. It’s easy to join and start using our services straight away! This includes downloading and streaming from our eLibrary to your device, wherever you are right now.

Membership is free for Gold Coasters and most Queenslanders, and if you're an interstate visitor, sign up for temporary membership while you're visiting our city!

Your Gold Coast Libraries membership unlocks access to our huge range of books, audiobooks, magazines, movies and music, available to borrow, download or stream.

But that's just the start! Membership also gives you access to services for all ages, free library programs and events, learning opportunities and the chance to connect with other passionate library lovers!

Your library membership enables you to:

  • Borrow up to 50 items for 3 weeks, including up to 10 from the accessible collection, and renew them twice for 3 weeks if nobody else has requested them.
  • Use the Libby app to borrow up to 20 eBooks or eAudiobooks, and unlimited digital magazines.
  • Use the Borrowbox app to borrow up to 10 eBooks and 10 eAudiobooks.
  • Pick up and return items to most libraries, many of which offer out-of-hours returns.
  • Access your account via our website, library app, by phone or at any library.
  • Download ebooks, eAudiobooks, magazines and newspapers from our eLibrary.
  • Stream movies, documentaries and music on your own devices.
  • Take online courses and use online learning and research resources.
  • Request items currently on loan to pick up or download when available.
  • Request books, large print books and audiobooks not held in our collection.
  • Reserve/use a computer for up to 60 minutes per day at any of our 11 locations.

When you join, you'll get a membership number and set up a password.

You can then borrow items from the library, use library PCs, and access our huge range of online resources - including books, ebooks, eAudiobooks and magazines - from anywhere.

You can take advantage of our 24/7 self-service access to check your account, search the catalogue, manage your holds and more through our website or app.

Changing your details

You can change your password or contact details at any time by logging in to your account, or ask at your nearest library.

Lost your library card?

If you have a physical library card and lose it or it's stolen, tell your nearest library as soon as possible. Replacement cards are available from all libraries with confirmation of identity.

Terms & conditions

As a member, you have rights and obligations to help us deliver a great library service for all our members. We don't charge overdue fees, but we ask that you take care of the items you borrow, and return them when they're due back.

Collection content

City of Gold Coast City doesn’t censor its library collection, which includes material in print, audio-visual and digital formats. There may be content within the collection that isn’t suitable for under 18s, including content that is unclassified. 

By becoming a library member, parents and caregivers accept responsibility for their children’s access, selection and use of all library materials and services, in both physical and digital formats. We accept no responsibility for the supervision of minors’ selection and use of any library content.

Local Studies Collection copyright and reproduction

Items in the Local Studies Collection have been obtained from a wide variety of sources over many years and any use must comply with The Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).

You may download, display, print or reproduce content in unaltered form for educational purposes, non-commercial research or study. 

Written permission must be obtained to adapt, publish, distribute or commercialise any material. You must, where necessary, obtain copyright permission and clearance relating to any cultural or indigenous matter.
