How to join

Gold Coast Libraries membership gives you access to a world of content and experiences, both in our libraries and online. Visit, borrow, download, discover and enjoy.

Membership is free for Gold Coasters and if you're a visitor, sign up for temporary membership while you're visiting our city!

Temporary online-only membership

If you can't get to a library, Gold Coast residents can join as a temporary online-only member to access to our great collection of digital resources.

Your request will be processed in two working days and your temporary online membership number will be emailed to you. You can then start downloading and streaming to your preferred device.

If you joined as a temporary member, please visit your nearest library with two forms of ID and we will be able to upgrade your membership as long as you still meet our membership conditions. See below for details of acceptable ID.

You'll need to bring two forms of identification (ID) – at least one showing your name, current residential address and photo such as driver's licence, rate notice, phone or electricity account.

Under 18

You'll need to bring your parent/carer who needs two forms of ID for themselves, plus one form of ID which confirms their relationship to you, such as a Medicare card.

Timeshare owners

You'll need to bring your certificate of timeshare ownership and proof of your permanent residential address.

Membership for visitors

Visitors can sign up for temporary membership, ideal for holidays or short trips to the Gold Coast.

Residents of neighbouring Queensland local government areas – Scenic Rim, Brisbane, Logan and Redland Councils – can join Gold Coast Libraries as a reciprocal member. Other Queensland residents can join on a six-month membership.

For interstate residents here for a longer stay, we also offer fee-based membership with the same benefits that locals enjoy.

Ask us for further details and requirements.
