Southport is where Gold Coast public libraries began when, in 1957, South Coast Town Council extended the town hall to incorporate South Coast Library, opening in 1958.
The current library, which also houses the Local Studies Library, provides a range of flexible spaces for library services, events and meetings. It has a café and outdoor courtyard.
The library was moved to Lawson Street in 1968, Australia Fair Shopping Centre in 1985, then to the current purpose-built library in 2002. Find out more about the history of our libraries on our Gold Coast Stories website.
Southport Library is on the corner Garden and Lawson Streets, Southport, opposite the Southport Central precinct. The library is a five-minute walk from Southport tram station.
Time-limited free parking is provided outside the library, including accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities.
During your visit, please follow directional signage, maintain good hand and respiratory hygiene and practice social distancing. Please stay at home if you're unwell.
