250 years of Jane Austen: Pop-up exhibition
This year is the 250th anniversary of the 1775 birth of Jane Austen, who has become one of the world’s most loved novelists. To mark this milestone, Gold Coast Libraries has teamed up with Jane Austen’s House in the UK to bring a very special pop-up exhibition to the Gold Coast.
The beautiful 8-panel exhibition will be touring our larger libraries until later this year. It traces Jane Austen's story from her birth right up to the present day, and the impact of her novels, themes and their relevance in literary culture today.
Enjoy exploring the life and work of Jane Austen, and you might also like to try the ‘Write a Gothic Story’ activity that accompanies the exhibition.
The panels have been researched and designed by the team at Jane Austen’s House. The house, in Chawton, Hampshire, was Jane Austen's final home, where she wrote, revised and had published all six of her globally beloved novels: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
Today, Jane Austen’s House is the most treasured Austen site in the world. Open as a museum since 1949, it holds an unparalleled collection of Austen’s letters, rare first editions, and personal items, as well as paintings, furniture and objects from the Regency period.
