Update 25 February 2021

The Dunlop Court footbridge is temporarily closed until at least Friday 5 March 2021. Pedestrians and bicycle riders are asked to follow the detour outlined below.

We are committed to maintaining public safety and the closure will enable bridge refurbishment works to occur. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Dunlop Court bridge

Commencing: February 2021
Completion: April 2021 (weather permitting)
Cost: $760,000

Project information

Refurbishment works are underway on Dunlop Court Footbridge over Sailaway Canal in Mermaid Waters.

Construction details

Extent of construction works includes:

  • pile repair
  • joint replacement
  • repairs to bridge abutments
  • bridge barrier (handrail) upgrade
  • deck wearing surface replacement.

Works will take place form Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 5pm. Considerable efforts are being made to minimise disruptions. However, local residents may notice construction noise at times.

Works will take place beneath the bridge and include refurbishment of steel encased piles, joint replacement and repairs to bridge abutments. On the surface, the barriers (handrails) will be replaced and the deck surface will be renewed to give the structure a fresh new look and feel.

Bridge closures will be in place for two weeks during the school holidays while we undertake bridge resurfacing and handrail replacement. Detours for pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be in place during the closure. Waterway users will be restricted to pass through certain sections under the bridge while pile works are being undertaken. Please refer to the attached detour map for details on the detour.

Benefits for the community

Project benefits include:

  • maintained structural integrity and extended service life of bridge components
  • improved safety for all bridge users
  • reduced ongoing maintenance costs.
