Mermaid Waters - Sonia Street stormwater drainage improvements
Commencing: June 2020
Completion: February 2021 (weather permitting)
Cost: $3.45 million
Project information
The City maintains over 2500 kilometres of stormwater drainage with an ongoing upgrade and renewal program. As part of this program the Sonia Street drainage catchment in Mermaid Waters is being upgraded to improve flood resilience.
Construction details
These works include the renewal of an underground drainage system along the Sonia Street, Peter Parade and Karbunya Street. The drainage system will discharge through Helm Court Park.
Works will also involve the relocation of underground services and shallow trenches under the road for new pipe installations. All works will take place in road reserves and on public land, pathways and open space areas.
Hours of work are between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. We are working to minimise all disruptions. However partial road closures will be in place so we can complete the works safely. Works will be staged to minimise impacts to residents. On street parking will be affected at various stages throughout the project. There will be a site office erected for the duration of the project in Helms Court Park, Karbunya Street. Local residents may experience construction noise and dust at times.
