Bally Mountain Conservation Area

Bally Mountain conservation area

Bally Mountain Conservation Area, Bonogin, is 483 hectares in size. It was purchased by the City, with some funding to acquire the Rosegum and Araluen Road sections by the Australian Government, for a contribution to the National Reserve system.

The Bally Mountain Conservation Reserves make an important contribution to the landscape values of the Gold Coast.

They form part of the vegetated ridgeline that separates Tallebudgera and Austinville valleys and are part of an important wildlife corridor that runs from Burleigh National Park through to Springbrook Mountain.

These reserves have interesting geological formations and ecosystems that are characteristic of the City's southern hinterland, with some higher altitude type flora present on top of Bally Mountain and Mount Gannon. They conserve a diverse assemblage of native flora and provide a range of habitat types to support local, nomadic and migratory fauna species. A large number of rare and threatened plants and animals have been recorded within these reserves.

Bushwalking

Please note that the only recreation trail is the return Rosegum trail leading from the front access gate along the bitumen.

The area leading up to Bally Mountain is private property and is not part of the conservation estate and is not to be used for recreational purposes. All other tracks within the reserve are for maintenance purposes only.

Help protect our cultural and natural heritage by staying on existing trails outlined on the trail map below.

Residents and visitors can enjoy vine and wet sclerophyll forests while bush walking through the Rosegum section, or appreciate the dry eucalypt forest by horseback along the designated trails. Horse riding trails are located within Springbrook National Park (contact Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service for information).

  • Horse riding is not permitted within Rosegum section.
  • Dogs are prohibited within these reserves.
  • Toilets are not available and telephone service is limited.
