Making parking easier and smarter

Providing easier and more convenient parking using new technology is a goal of our City Transport Strategy 2031, which aims to support the economic vitality of the city and boost sustainable transport use.

City of Gold Coast has introduced smart technology to make it easier to find parking, and to keep our city moving.

Please take note of regulated parking time limits, e.g. you must not park for longer than two hours in a 2P restricted parking bay. After this time, you must move your vehicle.

In ground sensors

In-ground sensors record when a parking space is occupied and the duration of the vehicle’s stay.

Approximately 5000 sensors previously installed across the City are being replaced and upgraded. While the previous sensors could not be seen, the replacement sensors are flush with the ground and are visible in the parking space.

The sensors will collect accurate information on parking vacancy changes, supporting a more efficient turnover of spaces and helping to increase parking availability for residents, businesses, shoppers and visitors.

This initiative is part of a wider plan that ensures parking is available in the right place, at the right time and at the right price, harnessing the potential of technology with best practice policy.

For more information about in-ground sensors, see our Frequently Asked Questions below.
