Calling all Gold Coast-based musicians, creatives and producers!

Starting Tuesday 15 October, The Business of Music is a project-based group-mentoring program designed to teach the working musician the crucial skills involved in running a successful music business. If you understand the importance of a strong network and continual professional development then this is the course for you!

The course is led by Brad Hoskings (Blind Boy Studios, Amy Shark) and provides the opportunity to network with like-minded industry peers and learn from the industry’s leading professionals. Special guest presenters from the first course include: Tyler McLoughlan from The Sound Pound, Andy Irvine from GYROstream, Stephen Wade from Select Music, Trina Massey from the Association of Artist Managers and Karla Ranby and Tommy Faith from Triple J.

Brad and the team work with you as a cohort to determine the groups requirements to build program content and book speakers throughout the course accordingly. In conjunction you will also receive a subscription to Music Inside Out, Australia’s leading online music industry professional development resource.

The core topics you will learn about include:

  • common music business contracts
  • royalties and income streams
  • how copyright can work for you
  • keeping your books in order
  • taking the scary out of tax
  • how to market your project
  • how to distribute your music for streaming.

As you learn the material, you have the opportunity to apply it directly to your own projects and you will learn how others are applying it to theirs.
