New signalised pedestrian crossing - Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba

Road workwer with slow sign

Commencing: 19 August 2019
Completion: 4 October 2019
Cost: $600,000

Project information

Works are underway to install a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba, between Gemvale Road and Leviathan Drive. We will also be making improvements to footpaths to improve access for the whole community, particularly people with disabilities.

The project will improve pedestrian safety and active travel connections in the area.

Construction details

We are working to minimise disruptions. However, local residents may notice construction noise and dust and temporary lane closures will be required. There will be no lane closures during the morning peak traffic.

Entry to ‘The Mill’ shopping centre will be closed on Somerset Drive for approximately two weeks while the driveway crossover is reconstructed. Alternative access is available on Gemvale Road.

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained throughout the construction of the project to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users.

Works are expected to take approximately six weeks, weather permitting.

Benefits to the community

  • improved footpaths and road crossings for pedestrians
  • safer road crossing for school students
  • safer pedestrian access to and from ‘The Mill’ shopping centre.

This project is part of our ongoing program to improve road safety and supports the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031.

Thank you for your patience.
