Old Coach Road upgrade - Reedy Creek, Stage 1 (Kingsmore Boulevard to former motocross track)

Road project lady holding slow sign

Commencing: November 2018
Completion: Mid-2020
Cost: $10.2 million

Project information

We are delivering a multi-million dollar upgrade of Old Coach Road in Reedy Creek, between the Kingsmore Boulevard roundabout (near the M1 Pacific Motorway Exit 85 off-ramp) and Tallebudgera Creek Road, Reedy Creek.

The project will improve safety for all road users by modifying the road alignment, separating pedestrians and cyclists from general traffic, and removing roadside hazards.

The project contributes to objectives in our Transport Strategy 2031 and Road Safety Plan.

Construction details

  • realignment and widening of Old Coach Road between the Kingsmore Boulevard roundabout and the former Reedy Creek motocross track
  • new on-road cycle lanes between the Kingsmore Boulevard roundabout and the former Reedy Creek motocross track
  • a new off-road cycle and pedestrian path (southern side) between the Kingsmore Boulevard roundabout and the former Reedy Creek motocross track
  • pavement replacement
  • new and upgraded stormwater drainage
  • new street lighting and landscaping.

We are working to minimise disruptions, however lane closures will be required and traffic delays will be experienced at times. Trucks and earthmoving machinery will be working in the area and local residents may notice construction noise and dust. Thank you for your patience.

Benefits to the community

  • improving the road alignment by removing reverse curves and a concealed driveway
  • reducing the risk of run-off road crashes by removing roadside hazards and widening the shoulders and verges
  • providing new separated cycle lanes
  • providing new off-road cycle and pedestrian shared path that will eventually be extended all the way to Bermuda Street and Tallebudgera Creek Road
  • new street lighting
  • lowering the speed limit from 70 kilometres per hour to 60 kilometres per hour.

Project update (February 2020)

We're aware of the delays experienced by some road users through construction, though we are committed to maintaining single lane access through this road during construction for road user and construction worker safety.

To ensure we minimise delays as much as possible, we have adjusted our construction
methods by:

  • extending the existing weekday manual traffic control hours to 6am – 6pm
  • adjusting construction methods to expedite the works
  • continuous monitoring and evaluation of traffic flow.

We anticipate these adjustments will further reduce congestion and delays in peak periods as we progress toward project completion.

You can minimise delays experienced through construction by:

  • travelling outside peak periods where possible
  • delaying non-essential travel
  • seeking alternate routes.

We are working hard to minimise disruptions to our local community.
Thank you for your ongoing patience while we complete this important road upgrade.

Future stages

Future stages of the Old Coach Road upgrade are in the early concept stage.

Once the preferred solution is endorsed by Council and funding has been secured, we will communicate details with the community.
