Palm Beach – Thrower Drive pedestrian crossing upgrade

Commencing: January 2021
Completion: March 2021 (weather permitting)
Cost: $490,000
Project information
Works are underway to upgrade the zebra pedestrian crossing at Thrower Drive in Palm Beach.
This project is being funded by the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.
Construction details
The upgrade includes:
- installation of actuated signalised pedestrian crossing
- new signage and line marking
- kerb modifications for pedestrian crossings as required
- resurfacing asphalt
- installation of pedestrian fencing.
Residents and road users may notice temporary traffic delays, noise and dust at times. Temporary lane closures will be required, and there will be pedestrian and traffic management in place. Road and path access will always be maintained. Works will be staged and ensure that all traffic lanes are operational during peak hours to minimise inconvenience. Some night works are expected in order to complete the asphalt surfacing and line marking.
We encourage all road users to take extra care when City crews are in the area and observe traffic signs and speed restrictions.
We will do our best to minimise disruptions, and we thank you in advance for your patience.
Benefits to the community
Benefits of this project include:
- improved safety for motorists, people on bikes and pedestrians
- reduced congestion, driver frustration and accident risk
- improved traffic flow along Thrower Drive.
