Pimpama – Old Pacific Highway – intersection upgrade

Commencing: March 2021
Completion: June 2021 (weather permitting)
Cost: $586,000

Project information

We are constructing a dedicated right-hand turn lane along the Old Pacific Highway at Pimpama to improve safety for vehicles entering the Coomera Council Depot and Slideways – Go Karting World.

Currently, southbound vehicles approaching the premises from the north are required to decelerate and wait for a gap in oncoming traffic before turning right into the site. There is insufficient space for southbound traffic to safely pass stopped vehicles waiting to turn right. This causes queued traffic, extended travel times and safety issues – such as an increased risk of rear-end crashes and small gap acceptance by drivers.

Construction details

Construction of the project will include:

  • widening the road pavement to accommodate construction of a dedicated right-turn lane at the depot’s vehicle entrance
  • upgrading an existing concrete box culvert to concrete pipes with grated inlet pit
  • turfing the new road verge embankment.

We are working to minimise disruptions however there may be temporary lane closures during construction. This may cause minor delays to traffic on the Old Pacific Highway. Thank you for your patience.

Benefits for the community

The benefits of this project include:

  • a safer road environment for all road users
  • reduced number and severity of crashes at the intersection
  • improved transport efficiency for southbound traffic due to provision of the right-hand turn lane.
