Tactical urbanism - Turpin Road Shops

Background

This row of shops was identified by City Place Making and Councillor Boulton as a candidate for a Tactical Urbanism project.

Design

The aim of the design was to provide a lift to the shops by adding some interest to the footpath and adding some colourful plant pots. The original footpath colour was quite light and showed a lot of stains and was difficult to keep clean, a dark colour was chosen with a speckle through it to help hid any discolouration. The streetscape also lacked any vegetation to help soften the building lines so six large colourful planter pots were installed.
