Cultural legacy

Festival 2018, the arts and culture program of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, collaborated with Bleach* Festival and the City to present the best local contemporary works and artists on the world stage. It provided a fantastic opportunity for local artists to perform in an international event and featured over 160 events, spanning the length of the coast, from Coomera to Coolangatta.

This free festival offered something for everyone with music, theatre, circus, dance, ideas, visual arts and film by artists from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and across the globe, including:

  • 35 world premieres
  • 15 Australian premieres
  • 20 Indigenous works and
  • over 1000 performances, half of which are from the Gold Coast and across Queensland.

Festival 2018 Gold Coast employed 1440 artists with close to half being from the Gold Coast and over a quarter, Indigenous Australian artists.

Accelerated Cultural Development Program

Our city is working to diversify its economy, and we view arts and culture as a key economic driver after the Commonwealth Games.

We have supported our local artists and cultural community through initiatives to ensure they have the opportunities they need to thrive.

Our investment of over $7 million into the local arts sector, through our Accelerated Cultural Development Program helped produce outstanding works for Festival 2018 via the following projects:

A generator, producer, ideas exchange, interdisciplinary and 100 per cent Gold Coast creative platform.
