Get home safe

The Gold Coast has a vibrant nightlife and features a range of entertainment options for a great night out with friends or family.
Pedestrians are involved in one out of 10 vehicle incidents with half of serious crashes involving a pedestrian in Surfers Paradise occurring between 8pm and 6am.
If you're planning a night out, make sure you plan how to get home safe.
Safety tips
- It’s easy to plan ahead. Organise a lift, catch a taxi or public transport, designate a driver or stay at a mate’s place.
- After a few drinks stay in a group. Don't let friends go off on their own.
- If you have a designated driver, make sure they are not affected by drugs or alcohol.
- If catching public transport, use the journey planner at translink.com.au or call 13 12 30 for timetable and service information.
- It’s a good idea to know the time of your last bus, train or G:link service.
- If you're going to walk home, choose well-lit streets and walk safely by staying on footpaths and crossing at pedestrian crossings.
- Never sit, rest or lie on the road.
- Never assume a driver has seen you.
- Use secure taxi ranks where possible (Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Coolangatta). Phone Gold Coast Cabs on 131 008.
- Find information about late night transport services including Secure and Flatfare taxi ranks, buses and the G:link (light rail) by visiting the Queensland Government's Translink website.
