Transport for people with disabilities and seniors

The Gold Coast has many transport options for seniors and people with disabilities. Find helpful links and information below.

Bus travel

Free seniors travel

Eligible Gold Coast seniors are able to travel for free on Gold Coast Surfside buses from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday (public holidays included) and all day on weekends.

Accessible bus travel

Many routes throughout the city are wheelchair accessible and the bus fleet includes low-floor buses. To find out about accessible buses and routes, please call Translink on 13 12 30.

Car and taxi travel

Council Cab service

City of Gold Coast's Council Cab service assists seniors and those with a disability to travel to their local shopping centre.

The service is door to door and return journeys cost $4. Find out more about Council Cab service eligibility and service areas, or call us at 07 5582 8211 or 1300 456 326.

Car parking and disability parking permits for people with limited mobility

Parking bays are available throughout the city for disability parking permit holders. Find out more about accessible parking.

Wheelchair accessible taxis

Gold Coast Cabs offer wheelchair accessible taxis, which can fit up to two wheelchairs per vehicle. Pre-booking is advised. Phone 131 008 or 07 5588 1234.

Accessible vehicles for hire

Wheelies Van Rental provides hiring of wheelchair accessible vehicles. Please call 07 5571 7544 to speak to one of their consultants.

Community transport services

There are various community transport providers in the city, which offer assistance for medical appointments, shopping and social activities.


Transcord Community Transport Organisation Inc. provides transport for eligible seniors and people with a disability. Services can also include medical appointments. To find out more information, please call 07 5539 3733.

Volunteering Services Australia

Volunteering Services Australia provides low cost transport for eligible seniors and people with a disability. Services can include trips for shopping and social activities.

Ozcare provides transport assistance for eligible seniors and people with a disability. For more information phone 1800 692 273 or visit Ozcare.

Feros Care

Feros Care provides social and medical transport. Please call 1300 763 583 for more information.

Train travel

Queensland Rail provides information about accessible train travel; learn more about station accessibility, passes for people with vision impairment, rail safety as well as information days.

Assistance using public transport

Assisted Travel provides travel support to community members who are 65 years and over; who find it difficult or overwhelming to use public transport on their own. The program aims to assist seniors in using public transport by giving them a personalised travel plan and map along with the help of a Travel Mentor.
