Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) impacts

The health and wellbeing of the Gold Coast community, our customers and City employees is our first priority.

The City is receiving advice from the Federal Government and Queensland Health on a daily basis to inform our response to the Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the city.

In line with the Queensland Government’s Roadmap to easing COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a staged approach to ensure we can safely resume operations and reopen our Aquatic Centres.

Current stage one restrictions issued by the Queensland State Government allow up to 10 people per pool and this has since been confirmed by the State as 10 people per centre any one time. In addition to this, current advice also states that stage two and three will only permit up to 20 and 100 visitors per centre at any one time.

With this information the City has conducted a thorough operational assessment of the centres in consideration of all user groups and outlined a sensible approach for a staged reopening to the public from stage three (10 July 2020) that is in line with:

  • Chief Health Officer public health directions
  • The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment, and
  • Royal Life Saving Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation – Managing the Risk of COVID-19 in Aquatic Facilities.

This plan for a staged reopening is complex and it means that some of our products and services will not be immediately available or will operate differently. While we appreciate some of our members and guests will be disappointed, this is temporary. We ask for patience while we work with the relevant authorities to get the local community back in and enjoying our centres safely and as soon as possible.

All memberships, enrolments and multi-visit passes remain on suspension as of 23 March 2020. Any membership enquiries can be directed to
