Gold Coast Oceanway – Tugun to Bilinga lighting upgrade

Project information

The City is upgrading the lighting on the Oceanway between Tugun Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) and Bilinga SLSC.

Since the opening of this section of the Oceanway in December 2018, its popularity with residents and visitors has exceeded all expectations. The lighting upgrade will enhance the user experience during the evenings. It will improve safety and accessibility and promote active travel to surrounding destinations, aligning with the Gold Coast Active Transport Plan 2017–27

Construction details

The upgrade will involve removing the existing solar bollard lighting and replacing it with 6.2 metre pole lighting (inclusive of a combined LED luminaire and solar panel). Lights will dim outside of peak hours (from 9pm) according to usage and shields will focus the light onto the pathway and away from residential buildings.

Early works

Geotechnical investigations have been undertaken to prepare for the installation of the new lighting poles and involved the excavation at each pole location, of an area the size of the proposed footing. Further upgrade works will begin in March 2021.

Local residents may experience some dust and noise. Property access will be maintained at all times, and we will do our best to minimise disruptions. Thank you in advance for your ongoing patience.

Benefits for the community

  • An enhanced Oceanway user experience during the evening
  • Upgraded lighting will improve network connectivity, safety and accessibility and promote active travel to surrounding destinations, aligning with the City’s Active Transport Strategy
  • A better connected Gold Coast.
