Worongary – Hinkler Drive road reconstruction

Commencing: November 2020
Completion: May 2021
Cost: $4.2 million

Project information

The City is reconstructing Hinkler Drive in Worongary, from Barrine Drive south to Goodman Place, to improve the overall condition of the road surface and reduce the need for regular maintenance.

Construction details

  • Renew the road pavement along Hinkler Drive for an approximate distance of 1100 metres.
  • Kerb and channel to be reconstructed to meet Council’s Land Development Guidelines where required.
  • Driveways will be partially or fully reconstructed. Those residents and businesses will receive formal notification before any driveways are reconstructed.
  • The existing footpath on the western side of Hinkler Drive will be replaced with a 1.5 metre wide footpath. To facilitate the widened footpath, there will also be a change made to street lighting along Hinkler Drive to improve the existing situation
  • A 2 metre wide footpath will be constructed along the Hinkler Drive frontage to Graham Dillon (OAM) Park.
  • Stormwater pits to be upgraded to meet Council’s Land Development Guidelines.
  • Reinstatement of line markings.
  • To deliver the works safely, and to reduce the impact on road users, we will also need to do some night works when traffic volumes are lower. We will let you know in advance of any night works commencing.

Construction is currently scheduled to commence in mid-November 2020 and will be completed in 22 weeks, weather permitting.

Works will be completed during the day from Monday to Friday (and Saturday where required), 6am to 6pm.

Night works have been scheduled for 18, 19 and 20 April 2021.

During construction, there will be temporary changes to traffic conditions along Hinkler Drive. There will be no full road closures and access will be maintained, however part road closures may be required to facilitate works. Traffic management will be in place.

We will continue to work with the community to minimise disruptions. However, local residents and businesses may be impacted by traffic disruptions, limited access and detours along with construction noise and dust.

Please slow down around roadworks and take extra care in the area. Thank you for your patience as we work to improve our city.

Benefits for the community

  • Improved road surface and amenity
  • A decrease in maintenance works along Hinkler Drive
  • A widened footpath to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and to encourage active travel
