Sport attraction
Our Sport Attraction Program has played a leading role in advancing the local sports industry, attracting elite sporting opportunities, driving job creation, investment and innovation for more than a decade.
The Gold Coast is internationally renowned as Australia’s premier destination for year‑round training and competition. With world class sporting facilities and an extraordinary natural environment, the city attracts elite athletes, professional teams and major sporting events from across the globe.
As the proud host of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and a Co‑Host City for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Gold Coast is committed to delivering a lasting sporting legacy for our community and future generations.
Program aims
- Attract and develop elite sport on the Gold Coast – including operational headquarters, centres of excellence, high performance camps, and sporting events that generate substantial economic, reputational, and social benefits for the local community
- Drive significant job creation and investment within the sports and sport-adjacent industries
- Support the development and growth of local sports supply chains, and activate local sporting infrastructure
- Create long term, legacy outcomes that align with the priorities and culture of our city
Program administration update
In 2025, the City of Gold Coast established Invest Gold Coast, a controlled entity dedicated exclusively to driving investment, attracting new businesses, and supporting the growth of high impact local enterprises. Invest Gold Coast now administers the Sport Attraction Program.
The program is not currently accepting new applications. However, if you would like to discuss your project or explore potential future opportunities, please contact us via our online form.
